Heating System Repair & Maintenance
Your car’s heating system is powered by a small part called the heater core. The heater core pulls in some of the hot radiator fluid coming from the engine and passes it in front of a fan, sending the heat it’s carrying through air ducts, through the cabin air filter, and into the car’s cabin. Fans inside the cabin then help to circulate the warm air generated by the core throughout the passenger areas in your car.
Your car’s heating system is inextricably linked to the cooling system on your car. Ideally, your engine’s temperature is constantly, carefully controlled by a built-in thermostat that regulates the coolant flow through the radiator to keep the engine running, while maintaining the optimal cabin conditions using in-cabin sensors.
We recommend having your car’s heater inspected and serviced in the early fall, before the need for it arises. No one wants to be stuck shivering in the bitter New England cold — prepare your car early for those colder temps, leaving yourself plenty of time to make any repairs.Read more about our recommended fall maintenance here.
Local Radiator & Heating System Repair in Agawam, MA
If either of these systems start to malfunction, there could be a problem with your heater core, a leaking hose, or the radiator itself. If your engine can’t offset excess heat, whether through the radiator or the heater core, your car’s running temperature will soar and could overheat—which can lead to costly repairs or irreparable engine failure.
As soon as you notice signs of heater failure, you should bring your car in for service— there's likely a problem in your heating or cooling system that needs attention. With many interconnected parts in this symptom, it’s important to seek out a professional diagnosis and have the issue fixed by a trained professional. Some of the most common repairs include:
- A failed heater core
- A dirty or clogged cabin air filter
- A failed radiator
- A leaky coolant hose
- A damaged water pump
- A malfunctioning thermostat
- Delayed maintenance
If left unattended, any of these can contribute to major problems that will quickly get worse with time. The longer a radiator or heating system repair is ignored, the greater the chances for bigger problems down the road.
