Getting stranded somewhere is never fun and, with the summer heat coming, it cane be even more dangerous. If you’re a member of AAA, here are some tips you should know when calling for road service.
The great part about many motorclubs is that membership isn’t attached to a single vehicle, the person carries the membership. As long as a member is in the car and carrying their card, their benefits can be used regardless of who was driving or who owns the car.
Make sure you understand the level of membership you subscribe to and the services that come with it.
If you are stuck along the highway, a busy road, or any other place where you do not feel safe, let the operator know. AAA will prioritize your call based on whether you are in a safe place or not.
The more details you can give the operator about your location the easier it will be for the tow truck driver to find you. If you’re along the roadway, know the street name or route number and the mile marker if possible. If not, pull out your phone and see if you can figure it out with your phone’s GPS.
Whenever possible stay with your vehicle until help arrives. If it’s unsafe to do so, let the operator know. They can contact local authorities to send a police vehicle with emergency lights to warn oncoming vehicles of your disabled car.
The organization will generally provide you service if you renew your membership over the phone, provided that it expired within the past year. They won’t let you upgrade to get additional towing but if you just need a jump start or help changing a flat they’ll come to the rescue.
