The Most Common Summer Car Repairs During the Summer

Summer days have a lot of our customers gearing up for vacations. With flight prices sky high, more and more folks are planning classic road trips— and we're all for it! Before you hit the highway for a long drive, we always recommend scheduling a check-up for your car. Here are some of the most common summer car repairs you can avoid with a quick tune-up.

Overheated Engine

One of the more common summer car repairs is an overheated engine. On particularly hot summer days, your engine is working double time to regulate its own temperature while keeping the car's cabin cool, especially if you’re cruising longer distances or have your A/C blasting. Occasionally, this extra strain overwhelms the system, causing the engine to overheat. If this happens on the road, your mechanic or roadside assistance service might recommend adding more coolant to the engine to get you to your destination. Either way, you’ll want to see a mechanic as soon as possible. In addition to adding coolant, you might need to repair your engine’s thermometer or heat sensor, which is a more involved repair.

Battery Replacement

If your car battery is a little on the older side, it might be finicky in the hottest weeks of summer (and the colder months of winter). Car batteries are very sensitive to extremes in temperature, and that sensitivity only increases as they age. If you haven’t had your battery checked this season, we recommend scheduling a battery test for your vehicle

Tire Repair

Summer heat can do a number on tires, particularly older or damaged ones. The extreme heat, both in the air and on the asphalt, can cause tires to wear more quickly and exacerbate any existing issues. But a roadside blowout will put a swift end to any road trip. It’s important to inspect your tires often for damage and have your mechanic take a more detailed look when you bring your car in for summer service so you can proactively plan for a replacement if needed.
