Spring is here! It’s time to get your car a good spring clean

Spring is officially here! And it's time to give your car a good spring clean. Here are the first few steps you can take to get the process started:

Give Your Car A Good Wash

Once the winter weather fades, it’s time to give your vehicle a good wash. Dirt, salt, and debris can take a toll on your car’s paint. It’s highly recommended to wash your car periodically throughout the spring season but that can be difficult with the unpredictability of changing seasons. When the seasons change, you should give your car a detailed wash to make sure the undercarriage is clear of the winter sludge that accumulates over time, and that your paint is clean from abrasive salts and pollen that can erode its protective finish. Experts say that washing your vehicle every few weeks can prevent dirt and other contaminants from rubbing through the paint or eating away at the undercarriage. Inspect The Tires

Tires tend to take a beating in the New England snow and salt through the winter months. Once the weather warms up, you should inspect your tires and rims for wear and tear— any new scratches and dings on the hardware, budding bald spots on the treads, and the like.

Replace Your Wiper Blades

While cleaning, you should visually inspect both the windshield and wiper blades and for wear. Simply slide your finger along the rubber to feel for cracks, divots, and other damage.  We typically recommend changing your wiper blades at least once a year—at the very least. Most drivers will need to change them more often, especially in New England where harsh weather makes the blades more prone to wear and unexpected damage. Ideally, you should replace the blades before they're broken to avoid any dangerous driving situations—driving with a damaged or missing blade can cause decreased visibility when you need it most, making accidents far more likely.

Catch Up On Maintenance

Spring is a great time to take care of any necessary repairs. From checking your A/C to changing your air filter, the change in seasons is a great time to catch up on seasonal to dos. If you suffer from allergies, replacing your car’s cabin air filter is really important. Your car’s ventilation system relies on this small filter to keep a steady stream of clean air flowing; so, while you can’t magically get rid of the pollen in the air, you can ensure that the air inside your car is clean by making sure your filter is in good shape.
